The Health Mela will benefit the people from rural villages who do not have much excess to the basic health care system. The Health Mela will facilitate availing specialized Doctors (Medicines, Gyane, Pediatrics, Ortho, E.N.T and Eye) to deal with various health problems faced by the people.
Training on sports activities
PASIGHAT, June 27: The Arunachal Vikash Parishad conducted three days training on sports activities recently at Pangin.
About 40 delegates from Upper Siang and host East Siang enthusiastically participated in the training program.

DAPORIJO, June 27: Stressing on the need to change the image of the district through
improvement in the behavior and attitude of the students and the public towards outsiders
and others, Home Minister Takar Marde gave the responsibility of setting a precedence
and bringing about the desired change, to the student community of the district,

The student leaders were also entrusted with the task of rooting out the wrongdoers of the student community who were giving it a bad name through unlawful activities. He also enjoined them to be sincere in studies and act and behave like students as they were the future representatives of the district to the outside world. Marde promised to look into the matter of demand for a college in the district by the student community.
The Home Minister also made a request to the police to honour their motto and make an effort to create respect for the uniform amongst the civil society through confidence building measures. He called for consideration of inclusion of NCC cadets, in case of shortage of police personnel, to check unlawful and amoral activities in the area.
Marde stated that peace and progress would come only if factional behavior was done away with and called upon the public leaders and business community to work as a unit towards the development of the district.
The meeting provided a platform to the business community, student community, public leaders, PRI members and colony representatives to air their problems and suggest possible solutions to the administration and the police of the district. Issues like law and order, shortage of police personnel, improvement of roads and drainage system in the town, improvement of education sector etc were discussed.
DIGP A Shukla called for the introduction collective patrolling by the police and public as a confidence building measure and also so that the public could understand the duties and problems faced by the police personnel.
D C Abhayankar while appreciating the youth of the district said that they could go a long way if proper and positive direction was given to them. In this regards, he revealed his plans of setting up Youth clubs, libraries, starting of skill development courses and career counseling workshops for the youth. He also added that action would be initiated on all the issues discussed so as not to give the public a cause for complain.

Villagers encouraged to take up
poultry farming
TEZU, June 27: Parliamentary Secretary Karikho Kri and Lohit ADC W Khimhum distributed Poultry Birds and Milk Processing Equipments under Rural Backyard Poultry Development Project and Intensive Dairy Development Programme (IDDP) among beneficiaries at Khoraliang village in a programme organized by the department of animal husbandry and veterinary, Tezu, today.
Speaking on the occasion, Kri said that this programme is an initiative of AH&V Deptt to encourage the villagers to take up poultry farming as an income generating activity as well as for consumption of eggs and poultry products.
Announcing the electrification of Khoraliang Hall by MLA LAD fund Kri sought the
cooperation of all the heads of departments and other agencies for undertaking any
developmental plans and programmes in the district. ADC W Khimhum asked the beneficiaries
to fully utilize the schemes. District Veterinary Officer, Dr. Hano Tama informed
about the sanctioning of centrally sponsored scheme RBPDP in Arunachal Pradesh which
would be implemented in Lohit District with a project cost of Rs. 1.39 crore. The
project was initiated from Lekang circle by Dr. Keshab Sarmah, SVO. This project
has been formulated in a way to assist 6000 women BPL families of Lohit District
to undertake backyard poultry units. The main objective of the project are to generate
employment avenues, enhance meat and eggs production, make villages self reliant,

ITANAGAR, Jun 27: Arunachalee weightlifter Menu Tajo is among the 12 lifters representing India at 37th Men and 17th Women Junior World Weightlifting Championship beginning at Penang, Malaysia from June 28 to July 7 next organized by International Weightlifting Federation.
Menu will compete in Junior Women 48 kg category, Indian Weightlifting Federation Joint Secretary Techi Abraham told The Arunachal Times over telephone from Bangalore today.
The team led by Techi, who is also the president of Arunachal Weightlifting Association, is leaving India tonight for Malayasia.

DC visits newly constructed SP office
ITANAGAR, June 27: While inspecting the newly constructed SP office complex with Papum Pare SP Nabam Gungte, DC Pige Ligu exhorted the line departments like PH and WS and Power departments to expedite piped water supply and electrical connectivity to the new building enabling the office of the SP to be shifted to its new location at the earliest.
Ligu further suggested SP to earmark a vehicle parking lot within the complex.
Gungte said he is ready to shift to the new office building within a month’s time if the basic needs including necessary water and power are provided at the earliest.
It may be recalled here that following the news report on dilapidated DC Bungalow at Yupia, local MLA Nabam Rebia had made a whirlwind visit to Yupia to take stock of the situation.
Ligu in a release informed that sincere efforts are being made to shift as many officials at Yupia headquarters at the earliest provided the line departments are committed to their part of the job. He further urged the Police Housing Department to expedite the completion of the SP office building at Yupia.
Arunachal Bhavan organize career counseling prog for Arunachalee students at Kolkata
ITANAGAR, June 27: A career counseling programme “Education interface”, was organized on June 24 at Arunachal Bhavan Kolkata under the initiative of the Additional Resident Commissioner Kolkata.
The main objectives of the counseling was to benefit students who come to West Bengal and neighboring states for getting admission to various educational institutes and for the children of Government servants serving under the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in Kolkata.
Addressing the students, Dr Sujit K Ghosh, Regional director IGNOU, Kolkata advised the students to utilize each and every movement in pursuit of career development. A simple graduation degree is not sufficient to face competition in this competitive era and as such specialization through alternative courses, as well as distance learning should be adopted, he added while briefing universities offering such courses.
Ranjini Datta , head of Department of Clinical Dietics, of KPC Medical College and Hospital, highlighted on career guidance in nutrition and diet control fields.
Tashi Dhondup, OSD Arunachal Bhawan, Kolkata, enlightened the students on the pattern of the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Services Examination and also provided them tips on preparing for the civil service examinations. The Additional Resident Commissioner Kolkata, Mamata Riba, appreciated the efforts put in by all officers and staff of Arunachal Bhavan Kolkata led by the Deputy Resident Commissioner, Kolkata Bijoy Talukdar. She expressed hoped that the event will prove to be a small milestone for the students and their parents as well as personnel of the Arunachal Bhavan in terms of indicating a benchmark in respective levels of achievements.

ITANAGAR, June 27: The District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit, Tezu observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking of Drugs at Conference Hall of District Hospital Tezu yesterday.
Highlighting the significance of the day, DPO, DAPCU Dr. J. Ado said that by resolution in 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
He also passed the message of “Drugs Destroy – Say No!!” and “Think Health – Not drugs” on the occasion.

Pope greets the people of Itanagar
ITANAGAR, June 27: ‘Pope Benedict XVI extended his greetings and blessings to the people of Itanagar when the Bishop of Itanagar Dr. John Thomas called on him recently. The Bishop just returned after a personal meeting with the Pope in Rome. He said that the Pope is aware that the Catholic Church in Itanagar is celebrating the Silver jubilee of its establishment at Nyokum Lapang.
All the Catholics Bishops are expected to make a personal visit to the Pope once every five years. This visit is called “Ad Limina” visit. This year all the Bishops of India will be taking turn to visit the Pope.
Bishop John Thomas spoke about his visit to the Pope during a Holy Mass he celebrated at Nyokum Lapang on June 26. At this Mass he also conferred the sacrament of confirmation on 170 believers. After the Mass the new executive members of the Catholic Youth association of Nyokum Lapang took their oath of office. Markio Talu is the new President and M. Peter is the General Secretary. The Catholic Community also took the occasion to give a fitting farewell to Sr. Rita who is transferred to Aalo.
ITANAGAR, June 27: Assam Rifles today denied any ill treatment, harassment or humiliation to common people from anywhere.
Reacting to the alleged ill treatment against chief of Khela village on June 25 by AR personnel, the AR sources further clarified that no innocent individual has been picked up or interrogated by 19 Assam Rifles.
Stating that investigation by Assam Rifles has always been done keeping the common people in mind, the AR sources claimed T Lowang, chief of Khela village has been actively involved in providing information about SF and administrative support (including shelter and food) to NSCN (IM) cadres. It further claimed being a sympathizer of group, NSCN (IM) handed over some arms and ammunitions for safe custody to T Lowang and the cache of arms and ammunition were buried by Lowang somewhere in village Khela.
“On June 25 he was called for a formal interaction at Bn HQ, Khonsa. When he was asked to give details about the cache of weapons which were handed over to him by NSCN (IM) for safe custody, he tried to show as if he was ignorant. He was sent back and advised by investigating officer to refrain from helping people with criminal links,” AR said while adding that he is trying to make false allegations against the investigating officer and trying to divert the attention from the main issue.

Woes of Dambuk

I, being a native of Remi, Dambuk, would like to express my views regarding Dambuk in the lines of adequately expressed views in the articles “Reversing trend of development” and “Never ending woes of Dambuk”.
Though one of the oldest administrative cricles, Dambuk is deprived of all modern
day developments -
Politicians reason the communication problem mainly roadways for such miserable condition of township especially during summer time. OK agreed. So why not freeze the root cause first and then go for other developmental actions.
Since the two rivers -
Why do the higher authorities not introduce an effective administration with more
power to SDO/ADC who can at least issue -
So, its high time the local MLA, public leaders and DASU, ADISU etc. work in unison to push forward a long lasting solution to the problems being faced by Dambuk.
Lastly, I request the intelligentsia of Dambuk working throughout the state and country in various capacities to offer valuable suggestions and extend their helping hand to student unions and politicians so that the problems of Dambuk be placed at appropriate level in state and nation. We can see Dambuk smile again with collective efforts of all.

Lets hope for brighter Arunachal
Dear editor
This is regarding the article “Insurgency in Arunachal Pradesh” (June 24). I as a common citizen of the state feels that the strong network reportedly set up by the insurgent group in our state should be dismantled as soon as possible, before it takes it own course. Our state has been a hub for unemployment for the last one decade and at such juncture the possibility of young minds opting for the outfit is high. I strongly feels that the task for eliminating all the factions in the western part of our state should be undertaken by the Indian army as they possess more capability and their intelligence networking is vast and strong, by saying this I don’t mean to undermine the police personnel of the state but for the sake of the security of the common people. Also the government’s officers and politicians, who keep funding them for their own benefit, should be questioned. It is also important for the people residing in the area affected by the insurgents to cooperate with the security departments in carrying out all major operations, if possible by putting their life at risk. Lets hope for a brighter Arunachal with everlasting peace.
